Ketchikan Potlatch Totem and City Tour 9:30am
Experience the beauty of Ketchikan's coastal community, as you visit a modern interpretation of a 19th century native village. Potlatch Totem Park is located on historic Tlingit Native fishing grounds located on the shores of the Tongass Narrows. View multiple houses, totem poles and panels while appreciating the beauty of smoothly carved wood and hearing the legends behind the designs. Much of the carving at Potlatch Park was completed by Brita Alander, one of the world's most gifted female carvers. Visit the carving studio for an exclusive demonstration by the current carver in residence and learn about their ancient technique. Potlatch Totem Park is also home to an antique car collection, featuring a 1934 Ford Coupe and 1924 Stanley Steamer as well as a display of rare antique firearms. Your visit concludes at the Totem Trading Company where you can enjoy a light snack. Your driver/guide will also tour through the historical downtown area of Ketchikan, where the waterfront comes alive with float planes and cruise ships. You will drive past City Park, Nathan Jackson's Thundering Wings and Dolly's House - located in the historic red light district before returning to your ship.
Please read this note if you will be taking this tour as a cruise ship shore excursion. Booking an independent shore excursion such as this tour has many benefits. These trips are typically less expensive than cruise line options, are operated by reputable Alaskan owned suppliers, and often are significantly less crowded. However, they are best suited for independent guests, and most trips require a short walk to a central departure point. If you have mobility limitations, or would just prefer to board your tour dockside, please consider purchasing a tour on board from the cruise line.
