Big Delta State Historical Park
Big Delta State Historical Park is located at mile 275 of the Richardson Highway. It is about 90 miles south of Fairbanks and would make a great stop when traveling by car between Copper Center and Fairbanks, particularly for history buffs. This was an important site for gold seekers, fur traders and the military in the early 1900's. The 10 acre park is home to Rika's Roadhouse and Landing. The Roadhouse has served travelers between Valdez and Fairbanks since 1909. Take a walk back in time with a walking tour of the park which includes a garden, a sod-roofed museum and the McCarty Telegraph Station. Built in 1907, this telegraph station served as the first communication connection between Washington D.C. and Alaskan military outposts. The park offers a picnic area, gift shop, restrooms and breakfast and lunch service at the Packhouse Pavilion Restaurant. RV camp sites are available in the parking lot development. Facilities include water and a dump station. For more information on Big Delta State Historical Park, please visit the Alaska Parks website for Big Delta State Historical Park.
