Seward, a coastal town on the tip of the Kenai Peninsula, is linked to the rest of Alaska by rail and road. It is also the terminus for many Inside Passage cruises.

The popular Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic route connects Seward with Anchorage. One train serves Seward daily in the summer. It departs Anchorage in the morning, and arrives into Seward around 11:05 AM. The train returns to Anchorage in the evening.

The Park Connection Motorcoach runs two daily Seward arrivals and departures. Visitors traveling to Seward for a few days will often ride the train into town and the Park Connection out, or vice-versa.

There are also rental cars available in Seward.

Many travelers, particularly passengers disembarking from Vancouver to Seward cruises, are interested in traveling all the way to Denali National Park from Seward. While the Alaska Railroad does connect, passengers take the evening train, overnight in Anchorage, and then catch a northbound train out the next morning. The Park Connection offers the only same-day service from Seward to Denali National Park. This way visitors leave on the morning motorcoach and arrive in the Denali Park area at 8:30 PM. You can use our Alaska Transportation Finder to see availability and rates.

While there is a small airstrip in Seward, there are no scheduled flights into or out of town. The nearest major airport is in Anchorage.

Seward is a small town and much of it pleasantly walkable. Some Seward hotels offer transportation, and the city runs a free shuttle on a loop through town with stops at the cruise ship dock (on cruise days), train depot, harbor, and downtown. There is also a fee-based shuttle that takes visitors to the nearby Exit Glacier Nature Center in Kenai Fjords National Park.
