Alaska Railroad Grandview Day Tour from Anchorage
Your ride on the Glacier Discovery train is a 9 hour scenic adventure that includes a scenic motorcoach from Portage to Anchorage. Your trip will depart from the Anchorage Depot located at 411 West First Avenue at 9:45am. Sit back and enjoy the comfortable seating and large picture windows. The route between Anchorage and Grandview Valley. After traveling through Anchorage you will descend through the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge. This area, also commonly known as Potter’s Marsh, is a good place to spot migratory birds, water fowl and moose. Your trip continues along the Turnagain Arm, a body of water featuring the world’s second highest tides at over 30 feet. Beluga whales can often be seen following salmon on the incoming tide, and Dall sheep frequent rocky mountain sides. After passing Girdwood and Portage Glacier you will travel through North America’s longest railroad tunnel before arriving in the town of Whittier for a brief stop. You will travel back through the tunnel and enjoy the view of the hanging glaciers in Portage Valley. After another brief stop at the Portage depot, the train will travel through the Placer River Valley in the Chugach National Forest and climb past Spencer Glacier to Grandview Pass seeing other hanging glaciers in route. Enjoy the spectacular views of Trail Glacier, Bartlett Glacier and Spencer Glacier - all of which are only accessible by rail.
After stopping at Grandview Pass, the Glacier Discovery train will return to Portage where you will disembark and board a motorcoach to take you the final part of your journey along the Turnagain Arm back to the Anchorage Rail Depot. Utilizing the motorcoach for the return trip shortens the trip by 2 1/2 hours. You will arrive at the depot about 6:45pm. The train features on board hosts and a cafe with "grab and go" menu items.

Payment and Cancellation Policy
A deposit equal to 30% of services reserved is due at the time of booking, with the balance due 45 days prior to your first day of travel. The following change and cancellation fees apply. Between 45 to 31 days prior to your first day of travel a 10% cancel/change fee will apply. Between 30 to 15 days prior to your first day of travel a 50% cancel/change fee will apply. Within 14 days of travel, your package is non-refundable and non-changeable. Because we cannot make exceptions to our cancellation or change policies for any reason, including family and medical emergencies, we STRONGLY encourage you to purchase travel insurance.
