- Copper River Scenic Rafting
With a multitude of waterways carving throughout the state, a trip to Alaska isn't complete without exploring just a few of them. This Copper River Scenic Rafting trip takes guests onto the water for a scenic three-hour float.
A river famous for its salmon run.
After suiting up in rubber boots and rain gear, guests and guides climb aboard their rafts and push off into the current. The trip flows down remote sections of the Tazlina River and Copper River, a waterway world famous for its salmon run. These rivers form a natural border along the vast mountain vistas of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park to the east.
Along the way the rafting guide points out established bald eagle nests and keeps an eye out for moose and bear that frequent the river banks. The raft also passes fish wheels, traditional fish harvesting tools used by Alaskans for generations. Families still run their fish wheels today and rafters get a close look from the water at just how those inventive contraptions operate. In between the guide's fascinating wildlife and cultural field notes, the river's splashy Class II rapids give the trip just a touch of a thrill. The trip concludes with a shuttle ride back to the Copper River Princess Lodge.
