Overview
Long before there was a Denali National Park, it was a gold rush that drew outside people to the wild area north of the Alaska Range. The rush centered on Kantishna, a mineral-rich landscape on which hardy miners staked their livelihoods. The Kantishna Experience Tour takes modern day visitors on an all-day journey through the park, and back to the old mining days at this remote post in the shadow of Denali.
Continuing into the heart of the old Kantishna mining area.
Guided and driven by a certified naturalist, the Kantishna Experience bus trip heads into the park in the early morning. The tour traverses the entire 92 miles of the Park Road, winding for hours through some of Alaska's most impressive landscapes. More time and distance into the park provides more chances to see wildlife and Denali, so the tour frequently stops for photo opportunities as well as every 90 minutes or so for rest breaks.
At Wonder Lake, a National Park Service Ranger takes over narration as the tour continues into the heart of the old Kantishna mining area. The trip reaches its turnaround point at the cabin of Fannie Quigley, one of Kantishna's most infamous past residents.
More Details
The Kantishna Experience Tour is fully-narrated by a certified naturalist guide/driver. A National Park Service Ranger boards the bus at Wonder Lake. The ticket price includes the park entrance fee (adults only). Seating aboard the modified school bus with coach seats is first-come, first-serve.
