Seward is a beautiful place with natural wonders to admire in every direction. Those wonders go from wow-worthy to awe inspiring when seen from the air. The peaks are taller, glaciers vaster, and wilderness seemingly endless. It's just what guests will experience on this 45-minute Seward flightseeing tour with backcountry landing.
Peaks are taller, glaciers vaster, and wilderness seemingly endless.
The tour begins at the Seward Airport where passengers check in 15 minutes prior to departure for a short safety briefing. Loaded up and buckled in, as the helicopter smoothly takes off it's clear that no seat has a bad view. Quickly the landscape is revealed, with scoured glacial valleys laced by braided rivers framed by jagged ridgelines that go for miles and miles. Though the flightseeing route changes daily in search of the best views, favorite landmarks include the Harding Icefield, Aialik Glacier, Bear Glacier, and the iceberg-studded lagoon at its toe.
It's near here where, halfway through the flight, the pilot swoops to hover and then gently lands. The icy blue bergs and dark water is quite the contrast to the lush green temperate rainforest mere miles beyond. Guests have time to explore the area on foot before boarding again for a return flight along the craggy coastline of Resurrection Bay. Those with a keen eye can often spot mountain goats, bears, and even whales along the way. The flightseeing trip ends back in Seward.
The tour operator flies Robinson R44 helicopters, each with three passenger seats.
What to Bring
Dress in layers and wear sturdy, close-toed shoes. Don't forget sunglasses and a camera. Because little baggage space is available in the helicopter, guests must leave backpacks and bags at the tour operator hangar.
Tour helicopters have a 290-pound maximum passenger seat restriction. To calculate accurate weight and balance for the aircraft, each passenger must provide their weight when making a reservation.
Transfers & Meeting Points
The tour operator provides complimentary roundtrip transportation to the airport from several locations in Seward, including the Harbor 360, Seward Windsong Lodge, and Seward Gateway Hotel. Pickup from other locations in town is available when requested in advance. The tour departs from the Seward Airport. Parking for self-drive guests is available at the hangar. Passengers must check in at least 15 minutes prior to their departure time.
