Major Marine Prince William Sound Blackstone Glacier Cruise Whittier Alaska
Climb aboard the Kenai Star for an unforgettable four hour plus cruise to the most spectacular glaciers in Prince William Sound. Look forward to breathtaking scenery, towering waterfalls, massive glaciers and wildlife such as eagles, harbor seals, otters and bird rookeries. Take pictures from the viewing decks as glaciers calve or relax in the comfort of the heated cabin in your 76 foot Coast Guard certified ship. Included is a delicious salmon and prime rib meal. On board the cruise is a Chugach National Forest Ranger who provides narration. Cruises depart daily from Whittier and venture into the calm, protected waters of Prince William Sound. The cruise departs from the dock across from the Alaska Railroad Depot, next to the Cruise Ship Terminal. As the ship enters Blackstone Bay, you'll see the massive Blackstone and Beloit Glaciers looming in the distance. As you move in closer, the glaciers grow larger, towering 1,700 feet over our 76-foot vessel. Listen to the glaciers as they groan and crack, an indication that enormous sections of ice are about to calve off and splash into the bay.
If you are driving yourself to Whittier, be sure to get updated tunnel information before departing for Whittier. The operator, Major Marine Tours, recommends taking the 10:30am tunnel opening to connect with their cruise. Included in your cruise price is a scrumptious, freshly prepared Alaska salmon and prime rib buffet meal. A typical menu includes Alaska salmon, prime rib, rice pilaf, green salad, hot sourdough bread, hot coffee or tea and dessert bar.
What To Wear
Due to unpredictable Alaskan weather, we advise dressing in layers, which will allow you to stay warm and dry as the outdoor environment changes. Even on warm summer days, temperatures can be cool on the boat when it is underway or stopped at a glacier. A rain coat or rain gear is recommended for inclement weather.
