Lodge Update: Due to planned construction, the National Park Service is limiting Park Road access beyond mile 43 in 2023. The Kantishna Roadhouse is open to fly-in guests only and must be booked directly. Our reservation agents are available to help coordinate transportation and lodging outside the park, just give us a call at 800-208-0200. Please check the Park Road page for additional park information.
Deep in the heart of Denali National Park, the Kantishna Roadhouse has a sense of history about it. The comfortable backcountry lodge was built on the original Kantishna townsite among the hills, where miners rushed in the hopes of finding gold in 1905. Today, the rustic recorder's cabin and original roadhouse still stand alongside the property's cozy log cabins and welcoming main lodge.
Ensure that guests fully enjoy the beautifully remote setting.
Guests arrive to the Kantishna Roadhouse after a wonderfully scenic six-hour bus ride on the Denali Park Road. Guests usually spot all manner of Denali wildlife along the way, from Dall sheep to caribou, and maybe even grizzlies. It serves as a fitting introduction to the experience guests have at the Kantishna Roadhouse. Staff coordinate outdoor activities that help guests fully enjoy the beautifully remote setting. There are three daily guided hikes offering easy, moderate, and more strenuous routes. Guests can gold pan and fly fish in nearby Moose Creek, or check out mountain bikes and ride to Wonder Lake. There is also a daily sled dog demonstration with the Roadhouse's resident pups.
All meals, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks are included in a stay at the Kantishna Roadhouse. A hearty hot breakfast buffet includes eggs, bacon, French toast or waffles, cereals, pastries, fresh fruits, juice, and coffee. Fresh salad, homemade soup, and sandwiches are provided for guests at the lodge for lunch, while those away at midday are sent out with sack lunches. For dinner, all guests gather for appetizers in the saloon and then share in a family-style meal complete with dessert. Beer, wine, and cocktails are available for purchase.
The Kantishna Roadhouse is located 90 miles inside Denali National Park. Guests typically arrive to the lodge on a six-hour guided wildlife bus tour. The remote wilderness property consists of duplex and fourplex cabins, and a main lodge with dining rooms, lounge areas, and upstairs library. There is also a greenhouse and sled dog kennel on property. There is a minimum stay of two nights, although staying at least three nights is highly recommended for a more relaxed experience.
The Roadhouse's 32 spacious cabin rooms come with two queen or full beds, and a full private bath. Onsite amenities include a greenhouse, gift shop, and saloon. The Kantishna Roadhouse also offers the chance to completely disconnect: There is no telephone, cell, or internet service.
The bus to the Kantishna Roadhouse departs from the Denali Depot. Many Denali park area hotels provide shuttle service to the depot. Free parking is only available at the Denali National Park Visitor Center for guests driving their own vehicles.
Guests who stay at the Kantishna Roadhouse for two or more nights are eligible for a free Park Connection Passport, a $299 value. Learn more here.
