The exhilarating Canyon Run puts in at Kingfisher Creek confluence. The current is swift and the river quickly narrows as it weaves through the Class II and III Razorback, Iceworm, and Two Rocks rapids. Rafters have a few moments to catch their breath, although the rest is brief. From here, the river rushes into the Nenana River Gorge.

A series of six Class III and IV rapids roil below the steep gorge walls, tumbling through churning eddies and holes before squeezing through the tricky Narrows. Exhilarated and likely a bit wet, everyone can breathe an exhilarated sigh of relief now. It's mild water till the pull-out at Healy. The trip concludes with a 15-minute drive back to the raft office.

The tour operator provides guests with Gore-Tex dry suits, neoprene boots, and Coast Guard approved lifejackets. Guests on the Canyon Run trip are also given helmets. Dry suits fit snuggly around the neck and wrists using latex gaskets, keeping the wearer dry on the inside. Suiting up, driving to the put-in location, and driving back to the office takes about 45 minutes. Rafters float 11 miles, and spend two hours on the river. No previous rafting experience is required.

What to Bring

This whitewater rafting trip operates rain or shine. Dress in warm layers and bring an extra pair of wool socks. Hats, waterproof gloves, lanyards for glasses, and waterproof camera holders can be purchased at the raft office. Anything worn outside the dry suit (hats and gloves) will get wet.

Special Instructions

If you have a latex allergy please note before booking (dry suits have latex gaskets at the neck, wrists, and feet). Alternative semi dry suits without latex can be provided.

Transfers & Meeting Points

The tour operator provides complimentary transportation from area hotels with advanced notice. After 7:30 AM river trips, a special shuttle runs directly to the depot for guests departing on the 12:30 PM Denali Star train. Free parking is available at the raft office for self-drive guests.
