Seward Fishing

Seward's location at the end of Resurrection Bay, and within a day's roundtrip boat ride to the Gulf of Alaska, provides for diverse and abundant fishing. Fishing charters leave daily from the Seward Small Boat Harbor with half-day and full-day trips available depending on the species of fish you'd like to catch. Both halibut and salmon are popular charter trips for locals and out-of-state visitors alike.

Halibut charters are typically a full day that ranges from 10 to 12 hours. The larger halibut inhabit deeper seas in the Gulf of Alaska, which is a further distance from Seward. Salmon charters can be a half or full day depending on the charter company. The wildly popular Coho, or silver salmon, migrate into Resurrection Bay, with peak fishing landing in late July to the middle of August. Salmon and halibut combo charters are typically available starting in July. They provide an opportunity to catch both types of fish, along with other species such as ling cod and snapper.

Alaska Tour & Travel does not book saltwater fishing charters. In Seward, we recommend visiting the Fish House. They can arrange charters and set you up with a fishing license and other gear. Alaska Fishing licenses can also be purchased online, just be sure to print and sign your license before you travel. You must have your license and ID with you while fishing. The Fish House is conveniently located in the Small Boat Harbor just across the street from where the Park Connection Motorcoach arrives and departs.
