Your afternoon adventure starts in the Seward Small Boat Harbor where, after boarding a tour boat bound for Fox Island, you head into the deep blue water of Resurrection Bay. The boat ride is a scenic wonder. Mountains rise from the water and with a little luck you'll catch a glimpse of seals, porpoises, and maybe even a whale along the way.
A haven for wildlife.
It takes about an hour to get to your destination for the day. Fox Island stretches some three miles along the southeastern side of Resurrection Bay. After a hearty lunch at a day lodge set back in the trees, you'll be met by your kayak guides for the afternoon.
Once you're geared up and prepped with the basics of sea kayaking, it's off into the water. The rocky island is a haven for scores of wildlife, both land and marine. Sea stars and urchins dot the tidal pools you paddle past, seabirds dip and dive along your path. Waterfalls, shy seals, a bald eagle or two. It's all part of the Fox Island kayaking experience. Your trip wraps ups with a return boat ride to Seward.
The Fox Island Kayaking Afternoon tour provides guests with stable two-person sea kayaks, paddles, spray skirts, and life jackets. Rubber boots and dry bags are also provided. The excursion includes a roundtrip boat ride from Seward.
Lunch on Fox Island includes seasonal fish or chicken, salad, cooked veggies, rolls, and cookies. A vegetarian lunch option is available when requested in advance.
This active outdoor adventure operates in most weather conditions. It is important to dress in warm synthetic layers. Consider wearing a long-sleeved shirt, long hiking pants (not jeans), a fleece or down jacket, and comfortable shoes. Bring full rain gear, an extra pair of wool socks, sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen.
Guests should be prepared for two hours of moderate activity. Novice kayakers are welcome.
Most local hotels provide shuttle service to the Small Boat Harbor. The tour operator will provide directions to a free parking lot for self-drivers.
