- Mush Your Own Dog Sled Tour from Talkeetna (Winter)
Overview
No Alaska winter is complete without seeing a sled dog team in action. On this tour you'll not only see it, but you'll have the chance to step on the runners and mush your very own team. The tour kicks with off with a convenient pickup in Talkeetna and a stop for lunch in town. Once you're fueled up for the fun ahead, it's off to the kennel of Dallas Seavey.
These pups are born to run.
Even newcomers to the sled dog tradition may have heard of Dallas Seavey. He's a legend in the mushing world and comes from a family of greats as well. At his world class kennel you'll learn from skilled dog handlers and racing mushers the basics of driving a dog team. Before you know it, your own team is harnessed and you're headed on nearby trails for a six-mile run.
The route winds through a forest of birch and spruce. A lead musher sets the pace and a tail musher follows along, so all you have to do is keep the sled true as your team of remarkable Alaskan Huskies do their work. These pups are born runners and at home trotting through the snow with their pals. About halfway through the run you'll have a break or two to take photos and switch mushers before returning to the kennel. The tour concludes with a narrated return trip to Anchorage.
