Fly into Ted Stevens International Airport and transfer to your hotel by courtesy shuttle.

Overnight Anchorage.

Today's travels make for a fitting first full day in Alaska. The morning begins with a tour of Anchorage and a visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Leaving Anchorage afterward, you'll travel south by motorcoach along the Turnagain Arm. The highway weaves between water's edge and cliffside, offering views of the Kenai Peninsula mountains. After reaching Whittier by way of the longest highway tunnel in North America, you'll board a boat for a scenic wildlife cruise across Prince William Sound to Valdez.

Your tour departs Valdez, a town aptly nicknamed "Little Switzerland," and heads north by motorcoach. You'll climb over Thompson Pass to Glennallen and then continue through outposts like Paxson and small towns like Delta Junction. After arriving in Fairbanks, the afternoon is yours to explore what locals call the "Golden Heart City."

The history of Fairbanks is on full display on this morning's city tour. In the afternoon the learning continues on a historic sternwheeler cruise up the Chena River. The tour includes bush plane, dog mushing, and Alaska Native cultural demonstrations.

The day starts with a train ride aboard the Wilderness Express dome service to Denali National Park. In the afternoon stretch your legs on an interpretative hike followed by a reception with a "Welcome to Denali" talk giving you a glimpse of what will be seen on your park tour tomorrow.
