Alaska Railroad Adventure Class Service
When it comes to the Alaska Railroad, even a standard class ticket gets you an exceptional onboard experience. This is the case with the Adventure Class, the railroad's classic service. Adventure Class passengers enjoy reserved seating, picture windows, and access to a shared dome observation car.
Adventure Class passenger cars feature comfortable assigned seats. Those seats are set four across with an aisle down the middle. Almost all are forward facing. Large picture windows run along the car walls for unrestricted views of the Alaskan landscape. Adventure Class cars also have overhead racks to stow items carried on board.
One of the favorite aspects of riding in Adventure Class is being able to walk throughout the train. In fact, most passengers use their reserved seat as a base camp but spend much of their train ride circulating through the bistro car and shared dome observation area. That shared space features upper-level views beneath full-length dome windows. It's the perfect place to experience the bigness of Alaska's landscape, especially near glaciers on the Coastal Classic route or in view of the Alaska Range on the Denali Star route.
Most Adventure Class passengers pay a visit to the Wilderness Café at some point along their train travels. This casual grab-and-go bistro car sells snacks, sandwiches, fresh salads, sweet treats, and beverages. On some routes the bistro area also has window-side common tables, giving passengers another space to enjoy the view.
Adventure Class passengers can also enjoy sit-down meals in the GoldStar Dining Room on the Coastal Classic and Denali Star train routes. Depending on the train segment and time of day, breakfast, lunch, or dinner are served. The dining car seats guests in four-person booths, so passengers often have the chance to meet and dine with new fellow travelers along the way. Adventure Class passengers typically pay $9 to $14 per breakfast dish, $13 to $16 at lunch, and $19 to $22 for dinner entrees. This is different from passengers seated in the GoldStar dome, a specialty upgrade service featuring reserved upper-level dome seating, who enjoy the same meals included in the cost of their ticket. Note that Alaska Railroad trains are cashless and can only accept debit and credit cards for payment. See our Alaska Railroad dining page for more details.
