- Coastal Cruise Bike Tour Anchorage
Overview
It surprises many travelers to Alaska that the urban Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is one of the best places to see wildlife in Anchorage. This guided bike tour takes guests along that meandering path with plenty of stops at interpretive signs and displays, for photos ops, and the occasional moose sighting.
One of the best ways to see wildlife in Anchorage.
The local bike guide meets guests at the distinctive log cabin visitor center in downtown Anchorage for a quick transfer by van to the trail's starting point in Kincaid Park. The group is outfitted with bikes, helmets, and gloves before pedaling onto the Coastal Trail. This gently undulating paved trail winds through forests populated by urban moose, and along the silty flats of the Knik Arm shoreline. The first rest point is Point Woronzof, an overlook with panoramic views of the Alaska and Aleutian mountain ranges. The guide narrates along the way, telling the story of Anchorage from many angles: Historical, cultural, and ecological.
The tour van meets the group around mile five of the bike ride. Guests who'd rather take a break from biking can hop on for a driving tour the rest of the way. After about three hours, the tour wraps up at Anchorage's Westchester Lagoon.
