Overview
Passengers spend six scenic hours cruising the unsurpassed Alaskan coastline on this classic day cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park. It's a popular, memorable tour and, with the wildlife and weather constantly changing, singular in every way.
Marine animals are often spotted quickly in the bay.
The first leg of the tour takes passengers out of Seward and into the majestic Resurrection Bay. The onboard tour guide narrates the cruise, introducing passengers to the natural history of the area while keeping an eye out for wildlife. Marine animals are often spotted quickly in the bay: Bald eagles circling for fish, seabirds diving from cliffside nests, or even a distant humpback exhaling a plume of mist into the air.
The route continues through bigger swells around Cheval and No Name Islands, then turns northward into Aialik Bay. The water calms, reflecting the mountains rising straight up from the bay. The scene becomes even more stunning as the tour boat glides to the toe of either Aialik or Holgate Glacier. These massive tidewater glaciers cascade precipitously into the calm water, dislodging massive blocks of ice amid a thrilling chorus of bangs and booms. The boat spends close to an hour in this dramatic setting before returning through the Gulf of Alaska to Seward.
More Details
The tour boat has two indoor cabins, wrap-around exterior walkways, and larger outdoor decks on the bow and stern. No smoking is allowed on the boat.
Lunch includes a southwestern chicken or vegetarian burrito. Additional snacks, hot and cold drinks, and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase.
What to Bring
To make the most of views and fresh air on the exterior decks, it is important to dress in layers for this tour. Bring a rain jacket, hat, and gloves. Wear warm base layers and rubber-soled shoes. Even on a sunny day, the air coming off a glacier can be quite chilly. Be sure to bring a camera and binoculars. If seasickness is a concern, air on the side of caution and take motion sickness medicine.
