Overview

Like many iconic Alaska landscapes, Resurrection Bay's beauty from a distance is one thing, but its beauty up close is another. On this five-hour kayaking excursion out of Seward you'll have a front row seat to the bay's grandeur.

The adventure begins at the tour operator's office where you'll suit up in paddling gear before hopping on a shuttle for a 15-minute drive the kayak put-in. Even on the drive the views are noteworthy, the road winding along the water and the base of steep coastal cliffs draped in waterfalls. You're treated to even more of this scenery once you climb into your stable sit-in kayak and paddle out into the bay. With luck you'll glimpse bald eagles, otters, harbor seals, and sea birds.

Partway through the paddle you'll beach the kayaks for a hike into a forest of towering Sitka spruce for up close views of an especially photogenic waterfall. After a tasty snack back on the beach, the tour wraps up with a relaxed paddle back and return to Seward.

The Rainforest and Waterfall Coastal Explorer is a two-fold tour showing guests the beauty of Resurrection Bay by both land and water. Guests are provided with stable sit-in sea kayaks, paddles, spray skirts, gloves, paddling shoes, dry bags, and life jackets. This is an active experience with several hours paddling and walking on beaches.

What to Bring

This outdoor adventure operates in most weather conditions. To ensure a fun experience, bring a rain jacket and dress in warm synthetic layers (no cotton). Wear a long-sleeved shirt, long hiking pants (not jeans), and a fleece or down jacket. Bring an extra pair of wool socks, sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen.

Special Instructions

This is an active outdoor excursion. Guests should be prepared for a few hours of moderate activity including paddling and beach walking. Previous kayaking experience is not necessary. This tour is open to children 12 years and older.

Transfers & Meeting Points

The tour starts at the operator office in Seward. Guests suit up there and then transfer by van to the kayak put-in at Lowell Point.
