Experience spectacular views of Denali from the jetboat.

Talkeetna Wilderness Jetboat Tour

In otherwise impenetrable terrain, Alaska’s mighty rivers give adventurous visitors access to the wilds.

Overview

The small town of Talkeetna sits where three major rivers converge in the foothills of Denali. This exciting two-hour jetboat tour takes to these waterways for a totally unique kind of Alaskan adventure. After checking in at the tour office in Talkeetna and shuttling to the river dock, guests board their safari boat. The tour runs inboard jetboats, custom designed for safety and comfort. Their wide, flat bottoms make these boats navigable in the shallowest of passages. The cabins are spacious, with seatbelt equipped seats and big windows along the walls and ceiling.

Cruising upriver at a swift 35 miles per hour.

A crew of two lead the tour, the boat captain and a naturalist guide. As the jetboat rumbles to life and the captain steers it into the current, the guide begins an entertaining narration. They acquaint guests with plants that grow in abundance along the river system, call out bald eagle nests, and with luck, spot bigger wildlife on the banks. With an average 35-mph cruising speed, the ride is fast and fun.

Partway through the trip, guests disembark for a leisurely quarter-mile nature walk to a recreated Dena'ina encampment to learn about the lives of the earliest Native Alaskan inhabitants. The interpretive area also features an authentic trapper's cabin from the turn of the century. The tour concludes with an jetboat ride back to Talkeetna.
