A serene kayaking adventure a short distance from downtown Talkeetna, this two-hour guided kayaking trip winds among quiet lake islands with views of Denali and the Alaska Range on clear days.

The tour starts with a quick ride from the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge to the Talkeetna Lakes Recreation Area. After gearing up and getting settled on sit-on-top kayaks you'll push off into the calm Talkeetna Lakes water. Deep woods surround the lakes and wildlife is abundant. You may see river otters, beavers, fox, and moose where the water meets the forest. Birds as well, with many species call the lake home, including the majestic loon whose telltale call sometimes echoes through the area.

Your experienced guide is there all along the way to provide basic instruction on kayaking and to share their expert knowledge of the area. It makes for both a fascinating and peaceful paddle.

More Details

The Denali Kayak Trip provides guests with stable single or tandem sit-on-top kayaks, paddles, and life jackets. Rain pants and jackets, boots or crocs, and dry bags for cameras are provided as needed for the weather. Tour length is about two hours, including transfers. Time on water is about 1.5 hours.

What to Bring

This active outdoor adventure operates in most weather conditions. It is important to dress in synthetic layers. Consider wearing a long-sleeved shirt, long hiking pants (not jeans), light rain jacket, comfortable shoes, and a hat.

Special Instructions

Guests should be prepared for two hours of moderate activity. Beginner kayakers are welcome.
