Overview
The highway connecting Anchorage to Seward is a route every traveler in Alaska should experience at least once. Designated a National Scenic Byway, the 130 miles offer splendid views of the southcentral Alaska mountains, lakes, and rivers. After leaving Anchorage, passengers on the comfortable Park Connection bus line drive along the Turnagain Arm past Girdwood and Portage before winding into the Kenai Mountains. The road tops out in the lushly green Turnagain Pass and then descends past the crystalline water of Trail Lake into Seward.

The Park Connection operates two standard daily trips from Anchorage to Seward. Both depart from the Dena'ina Civic Center in downtown Anchorage and drop off at the Seward Windsong Lodge, Small Boat Harbor, and the Gateway Hotel. The afternoon route adds an additional stop at the Seward cruise terminal on select ship days.
This route is a perfect connection for travelers taking wildlife day cruises or other afternoon excursions into Kenai Fjords National Park. The afternoon route is a good choice for those embarking on select cruises out of Seward (tap the More Details tab for additional cruise information).
More Details
The Park Connection runs a fleet of modern 52-seat motorcoaches equipped with seatbelts, footrests, armrests, and power outlets. There is one lavatory located in the rear of the bus. Seating is first-come, first-served. Park Connection drivers provide casual commentary on the surrounding area, keeping it light to give passengers time to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Cruise Passengers
AM and PM departures work as cruise transfers for select Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Viking ships embarking in Seward. An additional departure at 1:30PM operates only on select Royal Caribbean Ovation of the Seas ship days in 2026. If using cruise-provided luggage tags, checked luggage can be delivered directly to the cruise terminal (not available for Viking departures). Luggage
The Park Connection allows two bags and one small carry on item per person. Large luggage is stowed in lower bays with room onboard for smaller items in overhead racks. Additional fees may apply for excessively large oversized bags or items like bicycles, fish boxes, fishing equipment, or climbing equipment. There is no charge for items like strollers, car seats, wheelchairs, scooters, or oxygen concentrators.
Accessability
Park Connection motorcoaches are wheelchair accessible. Please notify the Park Connection at least 48 hours in advance if wheelchair accessibility is required. Each motorcoach can accommodate up to two wheelchair passengers at one time.
Departure/Arrival Points
Passengers must be at their designated pickup location at least 15 minutes prior to the schedule departure time. Pickup and drop-off locations are strictly limited to the list below.
