How to Get from Whittier to Seward

Transfer options from Whittier to Seward aren't in as high demand as those to Anchorage or Denali, which makes connecting these two small coastal towns a bit roundabout. Most options require a trip into Anchorage and then a return trip partly down the same highway to Seward. Luckily that "backtrack" portion has some incredible scenery. Here are your options.

TAKE THE BUS

To travel from Whittier to Seward by bus you'll take two legs and transfer in either Girdwood or Anchorage. The Park Connection Motorcoach picks up at the Whittier cruise terminal on designated ship days at 9:45 AM. From here you have two options, either drop off in Girdwood (about 10:30 AM) or Anchorage (12 PM). The motorcoach on your second leg to Seward departs Anchorage at 3 PM and from Girdwood at 4 PM. The coach arrives in Seward at about 5:45 PM.

If transferring in Girdwood, we recommend taking an excursion while there. The Chugach National Forest Park Private Hike is a popular choice and includes transportation to/from your Park Connection stop.

If transferring in Anchorage, you'll have a few hours to grab lunch or explore downtown.

BOOK A PRIVATE TRANSFER

A private transfer between Whittier and Seward is your most direct option. You'll be met in Whittier by your driver-guide and taken by Mercedes Sprinter Van directly to Seward. Private transfers can accommodate up to eight guests. This option is available by request, so please give us a call at 800-208-0200 for rates and availability.

RIDE THE TRAIN

There is no same-day scheduled train service from Whittier to Seward. Your best option is to take a private transfer or the Park Connection Motorcoach to Anchorage or Girdwood, overnight there, and then take the Coastal Classic train to Seward the next morning.
